Ron Tonkin claims he was born with gas in his veins. Because of that passion the Tonkin family has been providing Portland families with cars and trucks for nearly half a century. Since his start in the car business in 1960 with one Chevy store, the Tonkin family now owns 14 auto dealerships and one exotic Italian motorcycle store. Ron, now 76, is still quite active in the business, while sons Ed and Brad manage all levels of the corporation. The Tonkins are most certainly known for their ?Love of Cars?, and also noted for their love of the Portland Metropolitan community. In fact, the Portland Better Business Bureau has twice selected Tonkin as the number one business in Oregon for community involvement. The Kidney Association, Doernbecher Hospital, The Make-a-Wish Foundation, Metropolitan Family Service and the Oregon School Foundations, which benefit from Tonkin?s annual ?Drive for Schools? program, are but a few of the agencies that have felt the impact of the generous spirit of this family-owned company.
